Parenting Workshop

Parenting Workshop:
Building Resilience our Children

With Dr. Deborah MacNamara
7pm on Tuesday, April 1st in the Parish Center

Humans are some of the most adaptive creatures on the planet with the capacity to overcome adversity and find creative solutions to our problems. While it is within everyone’s capacity to be resilient and resourceful, this potential is not always realized for everyone. Raising resourceful and resilient children has never been more important and the role of tears in this process never more misunderstood. Adults play a key role in cultivating the roots of resilience that have lasting effects on their capacity to endure adversity.
*Babysitting will be provided but space is limited.
Please RSVP to the School or PREP office using the form on the reverse side no later than Friday, March 28th.

Back to work....

I hope everyone had a refreshing Spring Break and enjoyed spending time with family and friends!

This week we have been getting back in to our routines along with starting a few new project.

We will begin our  Home Reading Program this week. Book bags will be sent home on Friday along with instructions on how to participate in the program with your child. If you have any questions in regards to this program please come by the classroom to chat after school.

Lenten Promises
  • Each morning since the beginning of lent, students have been choosing a lenten promise from our special box to perform for the day. As they complete their lenten promise they fill out a leaf with their name and add it to our Lenten Giving Tree bulletin board in the hallway. Ask your child about their Lenten Promise for the day and remind them they can also complete their promise at home if they forgot during the day. If you are visiting the school , please stop by to see our Lenten Giving Tree.

Healthy Bodies
We are finishing off our Healthy Body Unit within the next few weeks. As we finish studying the food groups we will be making a fun nutritious snack to complete the unit. More details to follow.

Sports Club begins this Friday March 28th!

Things you can do at home with your child:
  • practice writing at home! We are working on writing and sounding out words as well as beginning to write sentences. By helping your child sound out words and practice spelling their sight words, it will help them gain confidence in their writing skills.
  • ask them to write out a shopping list for you
  • participate daily in the home reading program
  • continue to practice sight words
  • if you wish to have extra printing practice for your child please send me an email and I will send home some extra activities

Today we had our first skating field trip ! It was very exciting and all the students enjoyed their time at the rink. We skated with our buddies and our Kindergarten and Grade 1 friends. We then walked back to school to enjoy our lunch's and finally centers and a movie with Miss Da Cruz's class. It was a very busy day so expect those Kindergarten's to be tired!
I would like to thank all the parent volunteers who spent the morning with us. You were greatly appreciated tying up skates, carrying supplies, skating with the students and of course walking in the rain with us!
Please remember we get to do all this again on Monday ! Yippee! We will be leaving the school at approximately 12pm, so if you are planning to come with us again you are more than welcome to arrive at 1145am.

A few quick reminders about this week

Wednesday March 5th
Ash Wednesday Mass will be happening at 9am. Please make sure you arrive at school promptly so that we can walk over as a class. If you arrive late, please come to the church and we will be seated on the left hand side.

Poor Lunch
We will also be having a poor lunch throughout the school on Wednesday. Students will be given a bun and water to have for lunch. I do not expect the Kindergartens to just have a bun for lunch as I know they have large appetites and we will still need to have energy for the afternoon. Please pack a few snacks to go along with your child's poor lunch so they can still participate with the rest of the school.

Thursday March 6th
Skating
We will be getting organized for skating Thursday at 945am and planning to leave shortly after. If you have volunteered to walk along with us to the Skating Rink please be in our classroom between 930-945am. As this field trip is part of our PE program it is important that the students are able to get on the ice and participate as much as possible. Please remember this is a school event and is intended for the students of CCS.

Friday March 7th
In Class Poem Recitation:
We will begin our in class poem recitation of "My Elephant thinks I'm Wonderful" at 2:15pm. Please arrive ready to be 'wow-ed' by your child and their class! We will be having a family reading time afterwards where parents are welcome to stay and enjoy a few books with their child and their friends.

Have a wonderful week and I look forward to having you visit our classroom and taking part in the many activities this week entails.
